About me:
LJ Connolly-Hiatt (they/them) is a settler working as a dance maker and performer on unceded Woiwurrung country, of the wider Kulin nation. They are a 2015 dance graduate of Unitec (BPSA, Aotearoa). LJ creates solo and collaborative work while performing with various dance artists and companies. These artists include Shelley Lasica, Lillian Steiner, Rebecca Jensen, Alicia Frankovick, Chunky Move, Ellen Davies & Alice Heyward.
LJ's solo projects include ‘solo for red’ (Chunky Move’s ‘Solitude’ program 2021), ‘Archive for SF’ (Kindled Spirits, Grey Gardens Gallery & Blockprojects) and ‘Precarious Skin’ (supported by Dancehouse & Ausdance, performed Auckland Fringe 2017, Bluestone Church Arts Space 2017 & Ponderosa, Germany 2018). LJ received a Career Development Grant from The Australian Council of the Arts to attend workshops in Germany in 2018.
Together, Jesse Gall and LJ have created 'Pigeon Intimacies' (Dancehouse's Emerging Choreographers Program 2020), and ‘Darcy and Jes’ (PowerTrip & Subclub 2019). Together, Talia Rothstein and LJ created ‘Every Room Has its Rules’ (Aeso Studios 2018), ‘Lounge’ (Mars Rooftop Performance Art 2018), ‘Damn Good Smoke’ (Bluestone Church Arts Space 2017) and ‘Their Body and Other Tales’ (Brunswick Mechanics Institute residency 2019). LJ’s collective ‘Fabricate’ (Aotearoa) was awarded the Sydney Fringe Touring award (Wellington Fringe 2017), Best Dance of Dunedin Fringe 2018, and performed at Tempo Dance Festival 2017 & The Basement 2017 (Auckland, Aotearo
LJ facilitates sex education workshops in over 250 schools across Naarm and runs Pleasure You Imagine, their pleasure coaching practice. They are invested in creating work that speaks to the fluidity of gender, sexuality and sex, while acknowledging that embodiement is a radical and powerful act.
